Some of the basic manufacturing processes are casting, moulding, welding, machining, shaping, planning, turning, drilling, knurling, rolling, sheet making etc.
•    Thermal
this segment covers all the thermodynamics and energy related phenomenon which facilitates the movement in locomotives or any simple machine. More or less, it is related with the energy production and efficient use of energy. Non conventional methods of energy production are gaining immense popularity these days and Mechanical Engineers are exploring this sector all over the world.

Apart from the aforementioned areas, Mechanical Engineering also deals with study of mechanism, mechanics, materials and dynamics of solids and fluids.

The application of mechanical engineering dates back to the times of Archimedes who influenced the entire civilization by the magical implication of concepts of mechanical engineering. The development of Mechanical Engineering gained momentum in the eighteenth century when physics was at its crescendo of development.
